I know, but I am serious, I am not trying to being mean about this piece or to the creator of it, I think it's great photography. I'm just wondering why deviantart thinks that half naked women are always 'pieces of art'. I can see the art in this and why it was chosen, but most of the time the pictures chosen of women are just a bunch of fetish photos. Just saying.
well if it really irritates you that much you're better off posting the comment to the endorser of the DD, or at least saving it for an image of something more 'fetishy' than this pretty tame pic she's more clothed than half the women at any beach after all and it's always safer to just hold onto 'no offense' type comments and just relax and enjoy the art in general like someone could say something like 'no offense everybody, but I'm so tired of seeing 4 line poems on the front page. it takes zero effort and people just do it to get easy likes. I like poetry by come on DA, step it up' that could be targeted at your gallery, and even if i thought that and used a 'no offense' shield, I'd still definitely be a dick and it could hurt some feelings as long as it isn't straight up porn or a FB profile-quality pic, best to just admire it and go to the next image loosey goosey
Hmmm... I disagree. Art, whether it be photography, sketches/drawings, writing, poems, fan art, crafts and/or modeling all take effort and. for the most part, time. Even if it is a '4 line poem' or a sketch of a dragon, there is effort, for the most part, put into it. Not to mention that I don't know if your drawings took two minutes or two hours to create, either way if they look good, then the length of time doesn't always matter and neither should the length of the poem. Quality not quantity. I really meant no disrespect to the artist or to his/hers work. I was frustrated with dA, and it came out on here. I have nothing against this piece. It's a charming photograph. I am perfectly aware that I should not have posted such a thing on a piece that it was not directed to, but sometimes people get caught up in the moment. A mere mistake here. I see your point on this, thank you.
Honestly, my tiredness of half naked women in sensual poses being praised in the media is why I clicked on this picture. I wanted to see if the artist was portraying her as a beautiful artistic model or as fetish fuel. The artists' comment seems very professional, so I can't complain there.
I find it interesting when dA just did their whole "I Need Feminism" promotion, which I quite enjoyed, and their recent poll "Is objectifying a woman's body a violation of the principles of feminism or does it embrace them." As a woman myself, I personally voted that it violates them. While I don't discredit a woman's right to look sexy if that's how she wants to portray herself, I object to the sheer volume of sexualized women we encounter in today's media for increasingly and increasingly senseless reasons. What I would prefer to see in art depicting a nude or near nude female is one that focuses not on the erotic nature of a woman's body but perhaps on the abstract form and natural-ness of her nudity or to portray self-content or some other aspect of the woman's identity, how she views herself, not what others are meant to view about her.
And again, this is not meant to be derogatory to the artist, I do not find this photograph "offensive" or anything. She is beautiful and I think that is expressed in a respectable way. I'm merely meaning to have a discussion on this topic.
Yes! I think dA is having some conflicting thoughts about women.... You hardly ever see men being all sexed-up in the media to attract people, it's always women. :/ It's absurd really. Live and let live, but I really just think that deviantArt should just be a place for art, not porn or fetishes.
I definitely agree with you here. This piece is not an issue whatsoever since, as you said, the artist is being professional about it and keeping it professional.
